Day 2 - New York

Another busy, adventurous day in the Big Apple. It started off early as we caught a boat to take us to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was amazing to hear the history behind both and to see some of the artifacts that were left over from an amazing time period. Unfortunately many of the items weren’t displayed due to the large storm that flooded the Island 2 years ago. We then headed to the 9/11 Museum. What an incredible experience that brought back a flood of memories from that day. It was a definite must to see and experience.

We headed to China town for some shopping and then had an amazing dinner in Little Italy. It was a cute little city inside the big city. We loved just walking the streets. We walked through Wall Street then headed back to Time Square where we got on the bus for the “Night Tour”. It was fun to see the city at night. We headed over to Brooklyn where we were able to take some incredible pictures of the skyline. We were exhausted from another incredible day and headed back to our hotel for another good night sleep.

The big Apple! Day 1

My friend Shonnie and I were in need for a girls trip so we decided to head to the Big Apple. We took a red-eye flight so the first day we were a little tired, but we kept up with the busy schedule. We checked into our hotel, the Grand Hyatt, which was located right next door to the Grand Central Station. It was very convenient. We then were off to our city tour on the double decker bus. I have been there before, but I am in awe of how many large buildings there are. We went to Bloomingdales where Shonnie and I got a free makeup makeover (we did not necessarily consent to). Unfortunately only half of my face was done. The lady sent me on my way after I refused to buy facial cleaner for $75. We made our way back to the theater district to watch Phantom of the Operah. It was incredible. The stage was amazing as well.

We then headed to dinner, Jekyl and Hydes in Greenwich Village, which was recommended by Gege. We got there early, before the crowds which was probably a mistake. There was no one else there so we were the center of attention at this creepy “chuckee cheese-like” restaurant. We both ordered the shrimp which was a mistake. It was burned and tasted like charcoal. After a few bites, we wondered how we could get out of paying for the $25 meal. Shonnie said she would try one more bite, which was an even bigger mistake. She started choking and foaming at the mouth. She was getting the smallest amount of air through her esophagus so I wasn’t able to perform the Heimlich. So I started pounding on her back which didn’t help. In the mean time, the waiter tried to start the Heimlich maneuver until I explained it wouldn’t work. We all made the decision that he should call 911. Shonnie and I said a quick silent prayer to help our situation. 30 seconds later, the piece of meat went down. The Fire department and ambulance still arrived and were required to check her out and decline a drive to the hospital. She was embarrassed, however, I know it was a miracle the way it ended. And to top it off, we got out of paying for our dinner. So we had so much to do still so once again, we were off to the umpire state building. The views were incredible. There was also time square and yummy desserts. We were exhausted by then and headed back to our hotel for a full, long nights sleep!

Bobcats and wolves and bears ... Oh My!

The boys have been motivated in their scouting programs. Styler was awarded his Bear award and well on his way to the Arrow of Light. Great Job Styler! We are proud of you.
