Dance Showcase, Dance Competition, Dance Recital, Repeat!

With only the girls living at home, dance seems to rule our family's life. From Drill Competitions to showcases, we look forward to them all! Aysia's first Drill competition was in Cedar City. Her team did really well placing in the top 3 teams overall and she had an amazing solo competition placing top 5 overall which was impressive knowing she had appendicitis at the time. Mikelle was able to drive up from St. George and Peter up from Richfield to cheer her on. It was a great weekend and she was grateful her appendix held on! Auri had her end of the semester showcase at Vista Heights where she choreographed a dance as well as performed in several others.

Appendicitis - TWICE!!

Well, Aysia definitely has an appendicitis unlike most people. She was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix in October, not realizing why she was having intermittent pain for 10 days and we even enjoyed a trip to Hawaii not knowing it had ruptured until a week after we got home. Once we found out it was ruptured an abscess had formed around the appendix, a doctor placed a drain in it for 1 wk instead of removing it since she was so full of infection. They told us she would eventually need her appendix out at least within the next 6-12 months since the likelihood of it repeating rises. So we had her scheduled for March, after competition season and before college dance tryouts. Unfortunately, the Monday before her 1st big Drill Team competition, she mentioned she felt the similar pain as when she had it before. So once again, mom scanned her with ultrasound and saw it had unfortunately become inflamed again causing appendicitis a second time! The Doctor in the ER who mom knows said he was calling the surgeon to get it removed that night, but mom was able to talk him into giving Aysia antibiotics since it worked the 1st time and that we promised to get it out the next week, just in time for Christmas break, a 2 week recovery and back to competition the first week of January. He said he had never sent someone home with appendicitis, but mom promised she would keep a close eye on her and her condition and bring her in immediately if things got worse. So Aysia performed at the competition, did an incredible job and had her appendix out the next week. Her Christmas break wasn't as fun as she had hoped, but she didn't want to chance a 3rd appendicitis when it wasn't as convenient especially with dance season in full force. She was back to competing 2 weeks later!

The Season for Theater

One thing we love as a Yates family are plays! (Musicals are another story) The girls were able to attend Beauty in the Beast at the new Hale Center Theater in Sandy with Grandma Pikus and Grandma Woobie. They always have incredible actors and scenes. We usually attend the play "The Christmas Carol" as a traditional Christmas play but mom decided to mix it up and get tickets to "The Christmas Story" at the Scera. I was a musical but very entertaining with amazing actors - Ralph was the Best! We are hoping they come back next year!

We Are the Champions!

Jayden and Skyler were lucky to be able to play on a UVU intramural team together although Skyler was attending the University of Utah. Skyler was able to polish up on his goalie skills after returning from his mission and be a great asset to Jayden's team. They ended up taking 1st place and the Intramural trophy for a few pictures. They continued to play on different indoor teams with each other at Timpanogos indoor as well as Peaks Arena in Provo. Way to go Boys!!
