OLYMPIC ADVENTURE DAY 3: Monday, February 10th
We woke up well rested and were excited to get out and see the sights of Russia. Janson drove us up to Rosa Khator, the city where Mom was finally able to find her lipstick which was not cheap. We were able to see some women dressed in Russian attire which was fun. We were also surprised when Janson had a team driver with credentials get us into the Athlete Village. There were several credentials we had to apply for and wear around each city and venue. We ended up with about 5 or 6 total. We really looked important. But security was very strict and they looked at our credentials before boarding buses, cities and venues. We were so excited and surprised we were able to make it into the Olympic Village and see Noelle!!! We didn’t think we would be able to until race day. We toured her “dorm” and walked around the village. We were able to make matryoshka doll, or nesting doll. Everyone was so polite and accommodating. We were able to walk through the street of flags from every nation. We met a few athletes in the dining area and said hello to Katie Uhleander. We were ready to say goodbye to Noelle when she surprised us by grabbing her bags and coming with us. She originally told us she felt comfortable on the track and didn’t want to practice any more. However, we found that this wasn’t the case and that she had actually gotten a concussion a few days prior and was not feeling well. She stated she had blurry vision and was blacking out on the track where the pressure was strong on her head and neck. She was having difficulty seeing the track. We were very concerned for the race. Noelle was unable to say anything to her team doctor due to the consequences if she were to be diagnosed with a concussion. She would not have been cleared to slide. We went back to the apartment, ate dinner and went to bed praying that Noelle would be able to recover quickly.
