It was another exciting off shore day. We through the city of Belize and were given a brief tour. It was sad to see the poverty. Our guide was incredible. He told us that the average family earns approximately $6000 - $8000 / year. We took an hours drive through some turbulent roads to get to the Mayan Ruins called Altun Ha. It was interesting to here the history behind it. The way they made the echoes throughout the area was incredible. They made the flooring of the main area out of granite, which would then echo off of the walls. There would be several thousands of people that would be able to hear the voice of the king. They also showed us the allspice tree. They were incredibly intelligent. We hiked up some of the ruins that overlooked miles of foliage. The ruins were originally covered by dirt, but were found and uncovered years ago.
On our way home, we
found some women braiding hair. Aysia and Auri decided they wanted their hair
braided. It really made it easy for the rest of the trip. The rest of the group went to the Mayan
ruins, Lamanai. There, Nick proposed to his girlfriend, Carmen on top of the
ruin. We are excited for her to join our growing family. It was a great day!!
