Lake Powell is our Happy place. It continues to be our top vacation spot. It never gets old. The Wright family has been so generous to invite us back every year after 4 years. It is one of the top highlights of our summer. This year Jayden invited his friend Kyle Bloomquist. It's fun that we have kids very similar ages. Auri and Jack get along great being the youngest from both families.
Games are always a must. Mafia is always a Lake Powell "go-to" game. The kids really got into the game scum as well. However, the water games were much more of a hit, especially in the afternoons when temperatures would make there way up past 100 degrees.
Jack and Auri always found things to do. Auri brought her sculpting sand to share with Jack.
It took about a day before the boys and girls finally started to mesh. But once they did, the war was on. They would play king of the tube and try and push each other off.
Finding frogs is always fun at Lake Powell. The kids usually try and keep them for pets, luckily their "wise parents" decline.
Shonnie and Bart's boat started having some problems on the 3rd day. Taylor and Bart jumped right in the back to find the problem. It never really was able to run well for the rest of the trip. They found out later there was a bunch of wood chips and debris that had gotten stuck in one of the filters. It's always nice to have 2 boats for that reason. Ours had issues last summer.
The kids all gathered dry wood on the beach and Bart started the extra large Bon Fire. After about 2 hours, the kids were finally able to roast marshmallows.
While the boys were fishing, the girls found a dead fish in the water and captured it with a net. They found it had tried to eat a fish about its same size! Both fish unfortunately died. So of course the kids had to chase each other around with the fish and chuck it at each other. There were many screams!
It was common practice for the boys to catch a fish and let it slide down the slide back into the water.
The little bay we were in had a little inlet we could take the kayaks Bart and Shonnie brought to explore.
This was Kyle's first time cliff jumping. It was a success - No one was injured!
Since Bart and Shonnies boat had broken down, only a few were able to go on the hike we had planned. It looked amazing. They followed a dried river bed for a while.
After cleaning up and heading back to Bullfrog, a storm came in suddenly. Luckily we had just tied the house boat up to the buoy and we tried to get our stuff in the boat to make it to the loading docks, but it was too late. We unloaded our boats as quickly as we loaded them and had to wait out the storm which was at least 1 1/2 hours. The kids took naps and Aysia kept working on her loose tooth until she got it!
Lake Powell is extremely fun, and extremely exhausting!! Until next year...
