Red rock, Blue Water
We have a yearly routine of going to Lake Powell and have started a tradition of going with our friends, The Wright Family. This is the second year they have invited us down to spend a few days on their houseboat. Our kids are all similar in age and get along so well. September is a perfect time to go due to the cooler temperatures (90's) and warmer water.
We checked the kids out early from school on Wednesday and drove the long 5 hours to the lake. Unfortunately, we didn’t leave early enough and had to find our way to the houseboat across the bay with flood lights. We were happy we made it safe and slept very well that first night on top of the houseboat.
The next morning, we wanted to find a perfect camp spot. We found one up Halls bay that was amazing. The kids had a little island that they were able to swim over to and go hiking or make sand castles. There were several small fish at the back of the houseboat that the kids loved catching with their fishing poles. Jack decided to let one slide down the big slide into the water. Jayden was able to catch a 5 lb carp as well.
We bribed the kids, including Shonnie and Bart’s, that they each needed to at least try to waterski and/or wakeboard if they wanted to tube anymore. They loved the tubing and didn’t want to stop. Jayden, Skyler and Aysia all got up on waterskis and stayed up for quite awhile. Jayden was also able to wakeboard. They all did a great job! We also took an amazing hike up a river bed. It was difficult to get to the start of the hike due to all of the logs and debris in the water, but once we got passed that, it was an incredible hike. There was a waterfall the kids were playing in along the way and Indian ruins we found at the end of the hike. The kids loved the “squishy sand”.
On the last night of the trip the kids wanted to compete in a dance off. So we all divided into groups and chose the songs. Shonnie, Lauren and I busted out a few moves (the lawn mower, running man, sprinkler, etc). Unfortunately we did not win. Aysia and Reagan did and amazing job with their routine, but the winners (decided by Taylor, Bart and Ashlee) were Jayden, Skyler, Morgan and Jack. It was such a great time. We sang songs by the fire, roasted marshmallows, told scary stories and slept under the stars. What more could you ask for on a perfect Lake Powell trip?
