Lake Powell - The Second!

We were fortunate enough to go to Lake Powell for a second time this year. We planned a trip with Noelle and Janson’s family along with Grandma and Grandpa Pikus.

DAY 1: Our family decided to leave quite a bit earlier than the others because we needed to find a camping spot before they were filled up for the weekend. So we headed out at 4:30am and made good time until 20 miles outside of Hanksville. I was driving and noticed smoke coming from one of the boat tires. I pulled over and unfortunately Taylor found we had blown a wheel bearing. Luckily we had 2 wheels on each side so we prayed that we could make it to Hankville with just the one wheel on each side. It was a slow ride, but our prayers were answered and we made it to Hanskville at 8am, just in time for the repair shop to open. We were the first customers so they got us right in. While the bearings were being replaced, I took the kids into town for breakfast. After we ate, our boat trailer was good to go and we made it on the water by 11 am. We searched for a close sight so that the others wouldn’t have to travel so far back and forth between the marina since they rented rooms in Ticaboo. Lacee and Traycen stayed with us in tents on the beach. The beach we found was perfect! There was sand, sand and more sand along with a few muscles that found their way into the lake and cut the bottoms of your feet in the water if you aren’t careful. We planned on meeting the other group at 2pm unless we heard from them, but if there is one problem with Lake Powell, it is having no Cell Phone coverage. We waited and waited and finally by 4:30 they arrived. Apparently they blew a trailer tire and didn’t have the right tools to fix it and had to wait for a nice family to pull over and help. Now that we were all on the water, our vacation could begin! We ate dinner that night, played in the sand and went to bed a little early. It was a little windy that night, so sleeping was a little difficult, but we were ready to start a fresh new day!

DAY 2: The next day was filled with fishing, swimming, hanging out on the beach, building sand castles, sand snowmen, rivers for boat races and tubing. We had to make our traditional trip to Halls Crossing for ice-cream and feeding the carp. After dinner, the others left for their hotel and we made a fire and star-gazed.

DAY 3: It was a Sunday so we limited the water sports to just swimming in order to cool off. Grandpa decided to stay back at the hotel since he was tired and the heat was getting to him. We left the tubes and skis behind and headed to “Defiance House” Indian Ruins in Forgotten Canyon. It was a little bit of a hike, but once we made it up to them, it was completely shaded and felt amazing. A tour guide was up there and gave us information about the Anasazi  tribes that lived there centuries ago. We were allowed to go in the Kiev as well which the kids loved. We headed back to camp for dinner and Noelle, Janson, the twins and Grandma headed back to the hotel. We made a large fire, roasted marshmallows and sang songs. We also found a live scorpion that decided to come out at night.

DAY 4: After breakfast, the kids finished making their hot tub they had been working on for the entire trip. We cleaned up and Noelle and Janson’s party took off so they could get an early start to replace their spare tire they used and get Grandma and Grandpa home. We stayed and let the kids tube a little longer and finished packing up. As we were heading out onto the highway, we received a message that Noelle and Janson got another flat and had to leave the boat on the side of the road and head into town to get a new tire. Luckily they made it just as the store was closing and they were able to get their tire fixed. Although there were a few minor issues, we had a great trip!!
