Before the ski season began, we asked Jayden if he wanted to get a season ski pass since many of his friends were getting them as well. Being the responsible teenager he is, he smartly declined because he didn't feel like he would get his use out of it with soccer and all of the extra curricular activities he had going on. He still enjoyed going with his friends when he had the chance. He headed to Brighton with 3 friends and one of the friend's dad. It was the last run of the night and they decided to film themselves going off of a jump. His friend Kyle was first, then Jayden, then without much time in between, his friend Sam hit the jump at quite a high rate of speed and his ski tip hit Jayden's elbow. Jayden was definitely in some pain, but skied down the mountain and called us to let us know he was hurt and maybe broke his arm. We laughed a little because we have heard this before, but we stopped laughing after we helped him out of his coat and discovered his arm was definitely not normal. So luckily Jayden has a stellar Mom who has a talent for x-raying people and sure enough it was broken. After the ER doctor consulted with the Surgeon, they felt the piece broken off was close enough to the main bone that it would not need surgery, however, they wanted us to follow up in 1 week. Unfortunately, after one week, the piece had moved substantially away from the bone and it required surgery. Taylor was out of town, so Jayden and I went to the hospital the next day to have a pin placed in his elbow. He was actually excited for a nice nap! He was still able to play soccer with it wrapped heavily in bubble wrap. Luckily his surgeon, Dr. Marshall is an avid soccer fan and a soccer player himself, so he was generous to let Jayden switch out a couple of casts and be able to continue to play. Thank goodness Jayden didn't waste a season pass at the ski resort...
