We were able to get most of the family to join us this year
on our yearly Pikus vacation! Rob came a little later, but most were able to
take time out of their work schedules and busy lives to come together. Mom
rented 4 trailers for us to stay in. She reserved 4 camp spots at Cherry
Campground in Hobble Creek. Our spots were perfect! There was a small stream
running adjacent to our camp spots and plenty of trees to keep us shaded from
the sun. We all set up camp the first night and talked around the fire before
going to bed.
DAY 2: We loved just hanging around camp with all of the
games and activities mom planned. Noelle and Janson brought a large bubble
maker which the kids loved chasing the bubbles down the road. Most of the kids
also brought bikes and of course there were bike races the kids competed in. We
all headed to a large park that afternoon for a picnic lunch and playing
ultimate Frisbee. We headed back for dinner and a large group decided to hike
to the Diamond Fork Hot Springs that night. There were several pools to sit in,
but we all ended up near the bottom pools where they were a little cooler. On
our way back in the dark, Aysia almost stepped on a snake and brought it to
Taylor’s attention. When he shined his flashlight on it, he noticed it was a
baby rattle snake. He didn’t want anyone else to step on it, so he and Rob
grabbed a long stick and pushed it over the bridge. It was a longer hike than
we anticipated, but well worth it. We grabbed ice-cream cones on our way home
and made it back by 11:30. All the kids were great hikers!
DAY 3: Once again, the day was filled with games and bike
races. We went back to the park and had a volleyball tournament. That afternoon
the kids wanted to cool down so they all made boats out of the left over trash
and we had boat races down the stream. Mom also planned a fun scavenger hunt
for the kids. We roasted marshmallows and made s’mores that night. There was a
huge beetle problem and the fire would attract the flying bugs, but have no
fear, Makai was here. He would pick them up, smash them in his hands or stomp
on them. The crunching sound was so loud; you could hear it inside the trailer.
Luckily he decided not to eat them.
DAY 4: Jared and Jodi’s family had to leave a day early
since they had a long ride back home. So we hung out at camp and went to play
Frisbee golf at the local park. Grandma Pikus and I really need some extra
practice. We went back and ate dinner. Taylor and I went back home since I had
meetings all day Sunday and Shauna offered to stay with the kids one last night
since mom had the reservations for one more night. We went back down the next
day to pick up the trailer and get them all ready to take back to the rental
business the next day. It was a great, memorable trip! Thank you Grandma and
Grandpa Pikus!
