Lake Powell... The Third!

There aren’t very many places I would like to go more than once a year, but I think I could actually live in Lake Powell. We were excited for our annual Lake Powell trip with the Wrights. Jayden brought his friend Collin and Skyler brought Jake. We headed down early in the morning and luckily we didn’t have any wheel bearings go out on us this trip.

DAY 1: We quickly packed up the houseboat and we were off. We headed upstream this time towards Forgotten Canyon. Taylor went ahead to try and find a spot. There were very few spots and after traveling for an hour and half, we were ready to find something. His plan was to head down Crystal Springs canyon and if there wasn’t anything, we would travel another 45 minutes upstream to the next big canyon. While we waited, the kids made boondoggle bracelets, swam and hung out in the middle of the channel. After 45 minutes, we realized we either missed him or something happened. So Shonnie and I jumped in her boat and we headed down the canyon. It just kept going and going. We didn’t think we should go much further because we were afraid it would get too shallow, but we decided to head around one more bend and sure enough, we saw Taylor at the end of the canyon on a beach with another boater. As we got closer we realized the boat had broken down. A nice family stopped to help him, but wanted the spot Taylor found.  We decided to go talk to Bart. After talking it over, it made sense just to stay at that camp site since it would be a pain to have to tow the boat to the next site and the camp site he found was amazing. As Shonnie and I rounded the last corner, we saw Taylor in our boat that was now fixed and was heading our way. We told him we wanted the spot, but he felt bad since the guy helped fix the boat he thought he should give him the spot. But Bart rounded the corner and there was not turning back. We decided to share the spot. We shared our scones and food with them that night, but I think we scared them away with all of our kids. They left the next morning and found another spot (not as nice) around the corner. We paddle boarded, fished, ate dinner and played games that night. The stars were amazing!

DAY 3: The next day was a lounging day, so the kids hung out, played games, swam, went tubing and we headed over to Halls Crossing for ice-cream and to feed the carp. That night, Bart made a huge bon fire that we sat around and made smores and told stories. Collin’s cookie story was by far the best.

DAY 4: We decided to go for a hike. The hike we normally take where we walk through a river bed was completely dried up and the kids were done hiking after 15 minutes. So we headed to the Defiance House Indian Ruins that we hiked to on our last trip. Taylor took the older boys on a search for a slot canyon to climb through and succeeded in finding an amazing canyon. The tour guide at the Indian Ruins had artifacts from the exact site which was fun to see. Of course, after a long hike, we needed to cool down with some ice-cream from Halls Crossing. We headed back to camp where we hung out, swam and cliff jumped off the rock across the inlet. Bart made a climbing rope for the kids to get up on. Jake tore off his toenail while the boys were trying to push boulders into the water. He was a tough kid and we bandaged him up every few hours. He was proud of it, and decided to keep the toenail to show his mom. Lucky Mom!! We ended the evening with tube rides and water skiing. We had our glow stick party that night which the kids looked forward to and even decorated the mountainside with glow in the dark glow-stick paint.

DAY 5: It’s always sad to say goodbye, but all things must come to an end. We packed up the next morning and headed home. It was a great trip!! We just hope the Wright family doesn’t get sick of usJ
