Grandma Pikus has made it a tradition that we hold some sort of Pikus family reunion every year usually around the 24th of July. We had a great group this time with Frank and Kevin being able to join us with Christopher and Ashley. Unfortunately Noelle and Janson weren't able to make it since Noelle had knee surgery so the rest of us took care of their kids. We stopped for drinks at Chugs in Logan on the way up to the Bear Lake Cabin Grandma Pikus rented. We also stopped by the furniture store to say hello to Dayna and the boys. It was then onto the cabin for some Pikus Fun!
4-wheeling and corn hole was a hit, as well as playing pool and sitting in the hot tub. The house Grandma rented could sleep over 40 people which is exactly what we needed with the size of group we had.
The Saturday before the 24th of July was a little bit busy, but we brought kayaks, spike-ball and sand toys for the kids to enjoy. Dad and mom were tempted to take our boat, but we knew how busy and hectic it would be that weekend so we just enjoyed the time on the sand. After a long day at the beach, we headed home where Rob and Gege had Olive Garden cater the dinner that night. It was a great meal and a Donut and Smore's bar was to follow since we would be celebrating with a baby shower for the 2 new grand babies - Ashley's to come and Kyler and Emmy's that was just recently born. We played "change the diaper blindfolded", guess that price, and who could chug juice out of a bottle first. Rob of course bit the nipple off and drank the entire bottle in 3 seconds flat. So much for rules...
After a late night of hanging out, those that were traveling back to Colorado needed to say goodbye. The rest of the crew decided to head to church at various times. Dad mentioned we should just have sacrament meeting at the house since dad could approve it but mom thought it was important to at least try to go to church if one was available. The "Visitors" church that started at 10:30 was full when we arrived and they said to come back later. We wanted to go for a Sunday drive later so we decided to go ahead and hold our own sacrament meeting at the cabin which was a very spiritual experience. Rob, who had slept in that morning decided to join us since we would be having it there. After partaking the sacrament, Dad gave a quick thought and turned the time over to anyone that wanted to share their testimonies. It was such a spiritual sacrament meeting and grateful we were able to hold it at the cabin.
After Sacrament meeting many in our group decided to go see the tabernacle in Paris, Idaho. It was about a 30 minute drive North. The cute missionaries there gave us a tour and some of the kids were able to play a few hymns on the piano. Dad and Mom had to get back to make dinner for everyone since a few of the cousins had to leave that evening. The rest of the group decided to head to a cemetery in Dingle, Idaho where a few of our ancestors were buried. While they were there Rob saw a Mausoleum where a family had been buried. He was surprised to see it was open where the bodies were housed in vaults with pictures of each family member and the "Proclamation of the Family" framed on the wall. He thought it amazing enough that he told Regina that he wanted that for their family and she could render the drawing up at Pikus 3-D. It was an amazing day. We went back to the cabin to eat dinner and finish out strong with a game night. We cleaned up the next morning which was the 24th, grabbed our raspberry shakes and headed back home. It was an incredible reunion!
