SPRING BREAK PART I - Cruisin' for some SUN!!

Mom always loves a getaway for spring break so she invited the Wrights to join us who then invited their friends the Cogswell's for a Spring Break Cruise to Mexico. Since Jayden's spring break didn't coincide with the girls, we planned just a short 4 day cruise to Ensenada. Jayden was able to invite his roommate family since this would be the last big trip they would all take as bachelors since Colin would be getting married in 3 months.

DAY 1: We started early Thursday morning and arrived in Las Vegas in the early afternoon so we could enjoy our Cancun resort in Las Vegas. The girls slept most of the way through a little blizzard. We were definitely looking forward to some sunny, warm weather! Unfortunately a cold front had come in so it was a little chilly to sit by the pool. It didn't stop the kids from enjoying the extra large pool with waterslides and hot tubs. After swimming and  cleaning up we headed to the M&M store and Coca-Cola factory to taste test sodas from around the world. After testing the sodas, a bet was made that whoever lost the numbers game would drink the mixture of all the leftover drinks. Todd lost unfortunately but handled the leftovers with ease. We then headed to New York, New York where we ate dinner and walked around. The boys went to watch the Bellagio fountain show while everyone else headed to the Arcade to play games. We knew we had an early morning so we decided to head to bed at a decent time.

DAY 2: We hit the road early the next morning in order to make sure we made it to our cruise terminal by 12:00. Luckily traffic wasn't too bad in the early hours so we made good time and made it in plenty of time to board the ship, eat the buffet lunch and explore the ship. Miniature golf was a hit as well as the dancing on the Lido deck. We definitely had a group that wasn't afraid of dancing. The Cogswell's fit right in with our group. After setting sail, we dined for dinner, watched the comedian show where Bart ordered a $16 drink in a disco ball, ate pizza and played at the arcade. It was a great first day to set sail.

DAY 3: The next day was a cruising day. We all played in the miniature golf tournament, laid out by the pool, played in a "Speed" basketball tournament which Jayden came in 4th place and even played a game of hide and go seek when there was some down time. It was super fun to run around the ship avoiding being caught. Mom was the first one to find everyone. There was a 30 minute time limit. The first 15 minutes included the entire cruise ship on every floor. After 15 minutes, it was the top 5 floors for 10 more minutes and the last 5 minutes was the Lido floor where we would finish at a specific pool. The rules were no hiding, you always had to be walking and once you heard your name you were required to be a finder with whoever else was caught. Mom caught Jayden first at the end of the hallway of one of the bottom floors. We were then able to catch about 2/3's of the other players before the time ran out. Mom got a little crazy yelling out names and running through the buffet tables to catch Aysia's group with Jack, Auri and Regan. The next round we changed it up a bit and allowed for 2 people to separate and be finders. Bart was the only winner since he went back to the room for a bit for a break while Shonnie laid out by the pool with Alison and her kids. It was a super fun activity to play when there was some down time. After eating dinner in the dining room and taking our formal pictures, we headed to the pool deck for some line dancing with the cruise director. We definitely weren't afraid to show off our Utah moves.

DAY 4: The next day was our Ensenada port. We were able to hire a driver to take us to a local beach where the kids played soccer, swam in the freezing cold ocean, made sandcastles and buried each other. We went to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant and then waited for our ride back. Then we waited and waited and waited until we decided to start walking. We thought they had left us. After walking about a half mile, our van finally pulled up. We were just grateful we didn't have to walk the entire way back to the cruise ship. We were able to do some souvenir shopping at the local market by the dock, then headed back to our rooms to clean up for dinner. After dinner one of Alison's daughters was given a bobblehead of a guy who was with a group celebrating his 40th birthday. He said if we found him he would give us $10. As we searched for him we ended up finding 2 more bobbleheads of him so we decided to split up. It was harder than we thought because he looked different in each of the pictures. Dad had the idea that he might be at the 80's party in the main area of the cruise where the glass elevators overlooked the crowd. So in we all went into one of the glass elevators. As the elevator went up, we danced and showed off the bobble head in the window waiting for some reaction from the crowd. It was a success. The guy noticed his own bobbleheads, started pointing and laughing. We quickly went back down, called the remainder of our groups and met up with the guy to claim our money. From his reaction, I don't think he knew about the game. It ended up being a super fun activity when the nigh shows were only suboptimal and a game everyone was able to enjoy. We went to the piano room to listen to classic hits, ate more pizza and played categories up in the buffet lounge. It was a great way to spend our last night but I think we tired out Jayden's friends who went to bed early. Unfortunately Colin did not wear sunscreen and was extremely burned. Aloe vera wasn't much help that night so he got very little sleep.

DAY 5: It was an early morning breakfast and off the boat in order to book it home so we could be ready for school and work the next day. A huge snow storm came in and required the freeways to be shut down near Cedar City due to all the accidents the storm was causing. Luckily it was only about a 2 hour delay and we got home in time to unpack and head to bed. It was a great trip with amazing friends!
