August 5th was the big day for Jayden (Elder Yates) to enter the "Home MTC". Luckily his MTC experience was only 3 weeks long unlike some of his friends or cousins who had 6-9 weeks. He was set apart on August 4th by President Gibby and Brother Powell. It was a very spiritual experience, he was ready to hit the ground running. It was fun to have him home during his training. He would share some spiritual thoughts with us around the dinner table. On his P-days, he was able to go out with the family, Dad took him golfing to fulfill one of Jayden's items on his bucket list before leaving for a mission (thanks to Noelle and Janson).
Mom asked Jayden for 5 meals that he wanted before leaving on his mission. Chicken Ranch and Veggies, Chicken Noodle Soup and Sushi / fish fry night were all on the list. The fish/fry night consisted of Deep Fried Halibut, Salmon, Grilled shrimp, sushi, crab salad, water melon from the garden, rice and rolls. Mom and Dad also made reservations for the Melting Pot in Downtown Salt Lake. He had never been there before and loved the "dining experience" which took 2 1/2 hours! We hope to take him back again when he returns. On the last night before he was to leave for Arizona, we knew it would be a busy, long night with getting everything ready so we had his next favorite meal... CEREAL!
It was definitely an emotional goodbye. Mom was holding it together until she saw Jayden and Skyler hug and break down. They may not see each other for 4 years! 1/4 of Skyler's life! Luckily Dad and Mom knew they would be seeing him in the next month or two when he would have the opportunity to go through the temple to receive his endowment when they open back up. They lessened the blow a little. We are so proud of the decision he made to become a missionary and look forward to hearing his experiences as he grows.
