Unfiltered sunrise from our back deck overlooking Utah Lake and the mountains
Origami night with Skyler. He was teaching Traycen and Auri the ways of a professional Origamist:)
Auri wanted to make mom dessert. Vanilla Ice-cream with sliced strawberries drizzled with chocolate fudge was just what she needed.
Auri and her friend Ben Cannon having a playdate, we decided they deserved Cumble Cookies that night.
Skyler lifting up a replica of the Gold plates that Joseph Smith translated and had to keep hidden from those who wanted it for its money. This was at the Church History Museum in Salt Lake and the last Young Men and Young Women's activity our ward planned before the pandemic closed everything down.
Puzzles became the new "hot item" of the year 2020... They were out of stock at all the stores.
Homeschooling was fun for the first week, then it became routine and part of our daily lives.
Aysia and Mom were ready for a change and some fun. She decided to trick people into thinking we had cut her hair. She was able to tuck the back ends into a headband. Grandma Pikus was the most shocked, she always loved Aysia's long, beautiful, thick hair.
Auri had a playdate with her friend Leah. They started playing with her Bunchems (connector balls). They were playing with them on the floor when Leah started rolling around and got a large bunch of them stuck in her hair. They tried to get them out before they told mom and unfortunately got them more stuck than they were before. After trying to get them out with oil and conditioner, mom had to make the dreaded call to Leah's mom letting her know that she would most likely have to get her long, beautiful hair cut. Her mom was sweet and said her sister was a hair dresser that could create a cute short haircut and off they went. Luckily they were smart and were able to cut the balls in half and they slid right out. She was able to keep her long locks although they had to cut a few strands. They must call them "Bunchems" for a reason... A good lesson learned, tell the parents first before trying to solve it on your own:)
Our new normal for church is having it at home. We discuss the Come Follow Me lessons we read and talk about all week and are able to bless and pass the sacrament in our own homes. We have Grandma and Grandpa Pikus join us. It has confirmed that the church is aware of the future and one step ahead of everything to come. The Come Follow Me program has helped families to teach the gospel at home and allowed more responsibility to be placed on parents. This is obviously one of the reasons this program came out when it did. We hold sacrament meeting at noon every Sunday and dress in our Sunday best. It is a sacred time of the week for us whether we are at church or at home.
Celebrating Traycen's 9th birthday - Pandemic Style. No friend birthday parties, only family invited!
Since we were cooped up inside, we decided to start our garden early, indoors. It was a long cold spring so we weren't able to plant our garden until well after Mother's Day.
Aysia had the urge to cook something up for the family for dessert one night. She went onto the website supercook.com, checked the boxes with available ingredients we had on hand and this is what she decided to make... mini strawberry cheese cake bites. I think we have a future chef in the house and none of us are complaining.
Jayden and his friends, Todd McMillan, Kyle Blomquist and Collin Rallison never have a dull moment when they are together. This particular picture was taken at one of their gold fish's funerals. It is quite the production when one of their fish dies. They give it the proper burial it deserves. Any fish would be happy to have one of these boys as their pet owner.
