The Yates family has prided itself with how few emergency visits we have had for our little family. Once for dad's kidney stone and a semi-ER visit when Jayden broke his elbow (Mom x-rayed it and was able to consult with the ER doctor so no charges were made). Well, we jinxed ourselves. This was a summer that made up for the many years without big injuries. 1st Aysia called mom one night around 10pm in a panic that she was diving into a shallow pool (not realizing how shallow it was) and her head hit the bottom. Mom had no idea she was even swimming, but that was beside the point. Aysia was freaking out a little because there was a lot of blood and her friends were screaming that her brain was showing. Mom was able to calm her down after letting her know that because she was talking and moving it was a great sign and she never lost consciousness. She also explained to Aysia that head injuries usually have a lot of blood and look really scary even if it is for a smaller cut, but she would most likely need stitches. It seemed to calm her down. When mom picked her up, a man happened to have an ace bandage on hand that was working out in the adjacent clubhouse and wrapped her head with the bandage. Mom took her home briefly and made sure dad wouldn't have a shocked look (poker face) before she unwrapped the bandage. Sure enough a large gaping cut was right in the middle of her forehead. Mom called her hospital hoping one or two specific doctors would be on, but when she found out they weren't on, we decided to go to Mountain Point. While dad was checking her in, mom went back to the back to talk to the ER doctor working that night since she works with the same doctors there as Jordan Valley. On her way back she saw one of the doctors she was hoping to be on, Dr. Florence and asked if he was working. He mentioned he actually had the night off but someone needed him to trade last minute, definitely a miracle. He actually cancelled our registration and said he would do it under the table. He even had an ultrasound he needed to order for a patient while mom was there, so she ended up making money on an ER visit than paying for one. He was amazing and made 8 internal stitches and 3 outside stitches that he said would need to be removed in 3 days to minimize scaring. He did an incredible job. Although she will always have a faint scar there, it will be a constant reminder how lucky she was and what a miracle it was that she was able to walk away from the accident rather than be paralyzed. Her main concern was that she was having her Drill team pictures 2 days later in St. George. We are lucky we live in a day and age with photoshop and they turned out great.
Auri was invited to go down to St. George with her friend Lia last minute for a weekend. Auri was ecstatic. Unfortunately the next day Lia's mom texted mom and asked if Auri had mentioned hurting her arm on the trampoline the day before. Auri never said anything so mom said maybe just have her take some Tylenol and keep her elbow wrapped. That same day, the families dog left at home with a family member ran out of the house and was hit by a dog so they had to cut their trip early. Auri said it was a horrible ride home because the family had to say goodbye to their dog over facetime and everyone was crying all the way home. When Auri got home, mom was at work that evening. While facetiming her she noticed the way she was favoring her elbow and how she couldn't twist it that it was most likely broken. So she brought her up that evening and sure enough she had a small fracture on the radial head. Luckily it didn't need surgery and only needed a sling for the first week only if it hurt. She wouldn't be able to dance for 4-6 weeks though so it would be a long summer, at least we have our Lagoon passes to entertain us.
