Senior Night

Soccer season felt like it ended before it even began. Skyler had such a successful season. Although he played on the JV team he was still a Senior and was able to be honored at the last game of the year on Senior Night. He talked to Don Bastian about letting him even play for 5 minutes on Varsity since he hadn't had the opportunity all season and their lead goalie was gone playing for a National Team. Don lead Skyler to believe to be ready since the other goalie was a Junior, it made sense to let Skyler have some playing time even for a few minutes. Skyler even proved that he earned it since he had not been scored on all season on the JV team. So Grandma Woobie and Grandma and Grandpa Pikus were there to cheer him on. He was honored just before the game and they called his name as mom escorted him down the field - dad was out of town on business. Then the game began and Skyler waited and waited and waited... Unfortunately the coach never put him in although he put every other Senior on the field and even those that were declined to play by the school due to grade issues. It was a sad way for Skyler to have to end his High School Soccer career. Luckily for him, he has much bigger goals to achieve and can  look back at his years of playing and see the progress he made and be proud of himself regardless of what a coach may decide. Life is hard, but many times through these experiences it helps us become stronger and more empathetic towards others that may be facing similar challenges in the future. We are so proud of you Skyler and the way you held your head up all season and were so positive on the field EVERY game. Many commented about how Skyler was always complimenting players on the field and able to control the game on the defense side with his communication. We can't wait to see what the future holds for him!
