We decided not to rent a car the first 2 days of the trip since it isn't easy getting around and parking in the city. Our hotel offered a shuttle ride to the nearest subway station which became our mode of transportation for the next 2 days. We decided to tour the city with a "Hop-On, Hop-Off" bus pass. We were able to see some historical sites and listen to a few history lessons along the way. We got off in Little Italy to eat some pastries and Gelato of course and we were even privileged to have a conversation with a few older Italian men enjoying their meal. We could have spent the day there while they talked about everything but we graciously told them we were short on time. We walked part of the Freedom Trail and stopped by Paul Revere's House. Unfortunately, it was closed like many things due to Covid or only being opened very few odd hours. We stopped at the USS Constitution and learned about the Naval boat in the adjacent museum. It was one of 6 ships commissioned to be built by the 13 colonies in the late 1700's. These first warships built would comprise the new United States Navy. This particular boat is the oldest commissioned ship in the US and continues to voyage out once a year so it can continue to be registered as a "working" ship. They nicknamed the ship "Old Ironsides" after it defeated 4 German ships in the War of 1812. The museum was a playground for the kids. They had all sorts of games and activities for them. Auri even decided to lose a tooth inside the museum which she was ecstatic about because now the tooth fairy could bring her a prize on our vacation. The Paces left a little earlier than us since our kids were still enjoying the museum. Traycen stayed behind with us and we met the rest of the crew in downtown for lunch and more sightseeing. The East coast was experiencing record high temperatures while we were there. Add on the humidity we aren't used to in Utah and we felt like we were walking through a sauna for the entire day. We wanted to do a little more sight seeing, but the park with the large pond and water features was calling to us so we stopped, ate lemon slushies' and played in the warm water for a couple of hours. It was a great way to end the day.
