Drill Tryouts 2021!!

As a Freshmen, Aysia was extremely nervous for the upcoming Westlake High School Drill tryouts. As a 6A school, she knew there would be a big competition for each spot. They were told they could have between 25-32 spots, but wouldn't necessarily fill them all if they didn't feel like the girls had what it would take. It would be very demanding in both time and stamina. Aysia knew a few of the other freshmen trying out including one teammate she has had on her competition team for years. One of her friends dropped out prior to the tryouts knowing she didn't have the skill level they required. Unfortunately, Aysia had broker her toe 4 week prior to the tryouts. They provided weekly dance sessions for the girls to practice the upcoming dances and moves that would be required at tryouts. Since Aysia had broken her toe, she wasn't able to dance at the first two sessions. However, she decided even though she couldn't dance she wanted to go and watch so she could learn the moves and what the coaches wanted. She definitely stood out on the sidelines as she watched and one of  the coaches approached her asking her why she wasn't dancing. She remembered her name from that time forward and was impressed that she would show up even though she knew she couldn't dance. The time finally came and she gave it her all. They gave each girl and sealed envelope and sent them on their way. If they made the team, they were required to head back into the gym with their parent for a meeting. Aysia raced out to the car and opened the letter, she was officially one of the newest members of the drill team! Unfortunately, her teammate Joy was not so lucky. We we were shocked since she is an incredible dancer with a similar dance level as Aysia since they have been on the same team for years. Ayisa definitely had tumbling on her side and was able to out-tumble many of the girls. She is certainly gifted in this area and we can't wait to watch her perform with her team. Go Aysia, Go Westlake!!
